About: Nina Alvarez

Nina received a BA in English with a concentration in Creative Writing at the University at Albany, '99, where she won the departmental Shields McIlwaine poetry award. She returned as a graduate student and studied creative writing with Douglas Glover. In 2000 she received a writing center fellowship, studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, and earned her MA in English in 2003. Since then she has been the featured reading at the Naples Land Trust Festival (2004) and Words on the Verge (2014). Nina's hybrid work, fiction, and poetry have been published in The Tupelo Quarterly, Split Lip, Prick of the Spindle, Sonder Review, Danse Macabre, Electric Velocipede, 21 Stars Review, Contemporary Rhyme, and more.
