Absolutely magnificent!

Some of his poems are totally insane, some are even dull.
But this one is atop of all his poems.

This grabbed me. Similar experiences. One word can close off or open up whole realms of experience. I love the "...racism, the kind that lies/in the floorboards..."!

Fly safely to silver and write - gold!

Ahh, German Romanticism, t'was a beautiful thing. I am always amazed at the sheer breadth, the scope, the mindboggling volume of Goethe's writing. How many millions of words on how many subjects? This is a pretty little poem, an examplar of its type.

Very interesting and cogent discussion. My masters thesis was about 'The ontological status of fictional characters' , almost the reverse view, in the sense that no matter how honest and open one tries to be, there is an inevitable fictionality about the result. Even though I started asking the questions nearly thirty years ago, I'm still not sure there is a fundamental difference between the ontology of 'Superman' say and the ontology of the self, particularly a written down self. It is one of my major fascinations with bloggoland, all these people trying to articulate their 'selves', or idealisations of themselves.
This sentence "but there must be one ethos, i believe, over all, regarding the correct way to approach writing about the world." caught my eye. I think you may find many people disagreeing with you there. Diversity is strength.
But as I say a fascinating and rewarding discussion to read, thanks for sharing it with us.
